As participants in the Earth Hour, the companies are committed to switch off non-essential lights from 20:30 to 21:30 on 28 March. This includes lights at the brewery sites, office buildings and commercial signs. The Carlsberg companies have also planned for some local initiatives to mark their vote for the Earth Hour 2009.
The lights will be turned off in:

- 40 sites (breweries and malting houses)
- 32 office buildings and
distribution centres
- 59 signs

Facts about Earth Hour 2009
Earth Hour asks households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour to raise the awareness towards the need of taking action on the global climate change.
- 2007: Earth Hour started in Sydney, Australia, where 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off the lights.
- 2008: Earth Hour is going global with 50 million people joining. Even the Sydney Opera House stood in darkness for an hour.
- 2009: Earth Hour 2009 is shaping up as one of the greatest actions ever seen with the ambition of having 1 billion people switching off the lights and voting earth. So far, 1858 cities in 81 countries have signed up.
