In June 2006, Carlsberg invested in a new brewery in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, together with the local partner Sarbast Plus.
In July 2007 the brewery started shipments of its first local brand, “Sarbast”, meaning “free or independent” in ancient Uzbek. Currently Sarbast Original, Sarbast Extra, Tuborg Green and Baltika (#3 and #9) brands are produced at the brewery in Tashkent.
Uzbekistan has a population of over 27 million, a growing economy and an increasing level of beer consumption, currently around 6 litres per person per year. The domestic beer market has developed positively over the past few years and we believe it has the potential to grow strongly in future.
The initial planned capacity of the plant is one million hectolitres per annum.
All production processes are fully automatic, and the quality control system has been designed and installed by a specialist team. The equipment was provided by leading manufacturers.
